Week Two: A Clumsy Reappearance

JEZLI: Living with a Bittersweet Heart:

While musing over some recent heartbreaks, I stumbled upon the genius that is Zee Avi, a Malaysian singer-songwriter with the voice of a classic French songstress accompanied by a hipster on the uke. But lovely singing aside, I just love the lighthearted way she describes her "bitter heart" in the song off which I've based this playlist. Hopefully I've captured that dual-handed sweet and sour in these songs!

"Cry Baby" by Cee-Lo Gree
"Sweet Disposition" by The Temper Trap
"Gravity" by Sara Bareilles
"Bitter Heart" by Zee Avi
"Playground Love" by Air
"La Vie en Rose" by Louis Armstrong
"Dance Me to the End of Love" by The Civil Wars
"Woolen Blankets" by The Republic of Wolves
"Bruises" by Chairlift
"Fake Plastic Trees" by Amanda Palmer
**"The Limit to Your Love" by Feist
**"Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" by Bright Eyes

Mooney: Lyrical Lunar Love
This mix may, in fact, be as close to perfect as a sleepy-late-night playlist can get. Combining the beautiful beats from The Xx cover of Florence's "You've Got The Love" with the magical melodies coming from Tennis, Bear Hands, Real Estate, and Paper Fangs, with the voices of Murder by Death and Laura Marling, make an exquisite soundtrack that can't be beat.

Bells: I'm Effing Tired, Why Did I Do This Again
This mix was going to be me playing a cd because I was too tired to come up with anything useful for my 35 minutes of music this week. Plus I just got it from the Resale Shop and I think it's really cool and I just really wanted to listen to it. Due to the incessant pleas from my two co-Dj's I recreated an on-the-spot non-music-guideline-following playlist off Grooveshark. I kind of can't remember what I played, but Jezli's defiance of the station's music guidelines inspired me as she's usually the one who bites my head off about following procedural protocol.

I did play this "Where Is My Mind?" cover I heard while I watched It's Kind of a Funny Story last week.
